If you’re looking for an interesting and fun-filled musical night and you’re a whiskey lover in the same, stop looking because you have just found Boyd’s Jig and Reel. This place has got to be one of the most interesting musical venues here in Knoxville.
It wouldn’t be unreasonable to say that Boyd’s Jig and Reel is one of the most astounding Scottish-like pubs in the South (let alone East Knoxville). Boyd’s Jig and Reel is home to one of the largest collections of Scotch Whisky in the world.
This place currently serves 835 whiskies. Yes you read that right…835! The owners, Randy and Jenny Boyd claim that their goal is to represent every distillery both open and closed. 835 sounds like a lot, but they’re going to need a lot more to reach their highly determined goal.
Their diverse selection of spirits is not the only thing that will catch one’s attention. The atmosphere and rich culture and heritage surrounding the Jig and Reel is enough to stop a pedestrian in their tracks and make them feel welcome.
Boyd’s Jig and Reel hosts music every night and this is what really “reels” in the crowd. The Jig and Reel is a place to celebrate the heritage of the Scot-Irish immigrants who settled here years ago and what better way to do so than music.
The music played consists of traditional Irish and Scottish groups to Country, Bluegrass, Rockabilly, Singer-songwriter, Cajun, Indie-alternative, and Americana.
Whereas the culture and Scottish pride is rich within the Jig and Reel, it’s a very relaxed atmosphere. There’s no stage for the performers to stand on and there’s no spotlight for the performers to shine under.
This means that they are sitting in chairs amongst the rest of the crowd under the same lighting. A sense of togetherness can be felt, and it’s almost like your apart of a family when you sit down in the Jig and Reel.
You aren’t forced to sit and watch performers under lowlight while you struggle to find your drink. You can simply kick back and relax with a few of your friends while enjoying life like the Scot-Irish intended us to.
Every Wednesday night WDVX hosts their radio show at the Jig and Reel, so if you’re looking to see a live hosting with guest stars and enjoy some of the most rare and exotic drinks you can find then this is the place to be.
Every Thursday from 4pm-10pm you can sample any of their Scotch whiskies in a half ounce pour. That way you can taste test and see what you like or try something more unusual.
Boyd’s Jig and Reel really knows how to “lure” in customers with an unfathomable drink choice size as well as live music to enjoy every night. Whether you’re Scot-Irish or not you’re always welcome at the Jig and Reel.
